New 35+ Division Registration

John McMillan

The SIBL is excited to announce we will be swinging the bat on launching a 35+ division beginning this season. We are looking for players interested in joining and helping get this inaugural season off and running. Ideally we can field three or four teams for the inaugural season with hopes to grow the league in the years to come. Let's build a foundation for a league players can play in for years after we feel the green outfields of our youth have passed us by.

The intentions of the league are:

- Commitment level? Max one game a week, ideally no weekend games. (Maybe the odd Sunday night)

- Season length? Spring through Summer ending in a single weekend tournament

- Competition? A more relaxed approach to game play. Eg: unlimited defensive subs, unlimited batting rosters.

- Travel? If enough interest exists from players within the division, to build a travel team to play in some tournaments on and off the island as well as some weekend games against other older age group teams from around the island.

- Team selection? Teams will be selected by random draw. If you want to play with buddies, that will be accounted for and should be honoured. New entrants to the league going forward will be by draft (In communications with similar leagues on the island, it is the best way to do it).

Also, we really want people to spread the word outside of the SIBL. Your slo-pitch friends may not realize that wood bat real baseball is an option.

If you feel you could commit to running a team, and/or participating in making an 'old guy' division something we can make into a legacy league, please reach out. The success of this depends on our ball community. Victoria has the largest population on the island and is the ONLY area without a 'Masters' league. It is past time to remedy this.

There is a rich baseball community on the island made of guys doing the same thing and... it is FUN.

If you feel like you need one more season in the SIBL before you make the jump (you still could play both divisions full time if you desire), a sub list will beq made so you can dip your toe in the water without fully committing. I am hoping we can keep costs down for the first year if anyone wants to try to do both.

Here is the link to register, hopefully we will have info about fees, ect. soon!

Baseball season is upon us!
